About Umananda Island Temple

Perched on Peacock Island in the middle of the mighty Brahmaputra River, Umananda Temple was built in 1694 by Ahom King Gadadhar Singha. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the picturesque rocky island is reached by short ferry rides and provides sanctuary to the endangered Golden Langur monkeys living amidst tamarind and peepal trees.
