About Ghoom Monastery (Yiga Choeling)
Yiga Choeling Monastery, fondly known as Ghoom Monastery, is one of the oldest Gelugpa Tibetan Buddhist sanctuaries in the region, established in 1850 by Mongolian astrologer Lama Sherab Gyatso. Inside the atmospheric incense-scented shrine hall stands an imposing 15-foot clay statue of the Maitreya (Future) Buddha adorned with precious stones and silk khatas.
