About Gurudongmar Lake
Perched near the Tibetan border in North Sikkim at an astounding elevation of 17,800 feet (5,430 m), Gurudongmar Lake is among the highest lakes on Earth. Surrounded by snow-covered peaks, it holds immense religious sanctity for Buddhists and Sikhs alike. Legend says Guru Padmasambhava touched a section of the lake so it never completely freezes even in sub-zero winters.
